A few decades ago, being competent in using information meant, first and foremost, being able to write and read. Nowadays, however, digital skills—this new type of competence—include not only the ability to interact, communicate, and publish, but also to access information in digital form. This means being able to understand and use information from a wide variety of sources, in multiple formats, when it is presented through a computer. It is essential to understand that this type of competence refers to the ability to master knowledge and ideas, not just keystrokes. And, above all, it is essential to understand that we are not being asked to give up all other sources of information in favor of the computer or the Internet.
The Digital Skills course on using information technology as a tool for learning and knowledge is here to support you!
